Heading for San Diego & The Start of the Bike Ride

Day 1 - We finally got on the road Tuesday, 2/23, p.m. instead on Monday morning. After having a hitch put on the motor home so we could tow the car, we ended up w/a short in the air bag system. This allows us to inflate the bags and therefore raise the rear so it doesn’t bottom out. We had that fixed on Friday, but in the process, we discovered we needed new brakes. This was completed on Tuesday when we discovered we also needed 4 new batteries. We brought the vehicle home, loaded it and headed to Belfair for the batteries. We made it as far as Olympia Tuesday night and got to spend a short time saying good- by to Shawn, Jesse, and Sammy. Mike got up in the middle of the night only to find that we had a leak in the bathroom coming from the line to the new faucets that we had had installed. The carpet was soaked! We’ve been running a heater when stopped to dry it out.

Day 2 - we drove from Olympia to a wonderful little campground named Cypress Grove south of Grants Pass. We had internet access and cable TV so we could watch the Olympics – just no water because of the leak. There was reportedly snow in the Siskiyous so we opted to head over the pass on Thursday morning.

Day 3 - It is a beautiful, sunny day and the drive over the pass was very picturesque! As I enter this, we are stopped in Yreka trying to get fittings to fix the bathroom faucet leak so we can again have water in the motor home. We finally pulled into a park in Thornton, CA –New Hope Landing - just after dark.

Day 4 – Friday, 2/26. Another pretty day. Left the park at 7:30 a.m. and arrived at Capistrano Beach to spend the night w/friends Ed and Eva Benz. Went out for a great Italian dinner. Mike says he’s never seen such nice concrete work as Ed has around his home.

Day 5 – Mike and Ed walked Lola the golden retriever in the rain and hopefully Mike will get the bathroom leak fixed. Ed thinks he has it fixed, but it appears Mike left the pressure valve at home. This is the thing that goes on the outside water connection to control the pressure into the motor home so you don't blow a line - so one more night w/o water until we can pick up a valve. Oh - the first campground that we pulled into looked like a scene out of "Deliverance". Mike said "Joe #@#@ the Rag Man" wouldn't stay there so we moved on down the road to
