4/7 Pumpkin to Silsbee (Still TX)
Not much to report today. I rode the 1st 36 or 37 miles and Denise rode the 2nd half. I rode from Pumpkin to Evergreen, Cold spring, Shephard, Dolan and changed w/Denise in Romayer (wherever that is). Denise rode from Romayer to Rye, Votaw, Thicket,Honey Island, Kountze to Silsbee. Thicket got it's name from an area with a length of over 100 miles by 50 miles, an are so thick w/underbrush that it served as a handy hiding place for outlaws and smugglers. The Confederate Army sent squads to look for these men, who became known as "bushwhackers", a term still used today. We stayed at the Red Cloud RV Park and went out for a Mexican dinner. There was supposed to be a storm coming w/rain and wind, but all we got was a little rain at night and by the next morning everything was dry.
