April 1st - Rest Day - Alamo
April 1st was a rest day. We drove about 1.5 hours to San Antonio to see the Alamo and do the River Walk. We got in on a history lesson that was being presented to elementary students at the Alamo. The students had obviously been studying their history as they could answer all the questions being asked. We went from the Alamo to the River Walk - in and out of shops. Finally found a Starbucks. Denise's friends Charles and Andy called to say they had broken down about 6 miles outside of town. They had been riding the Texas Hill Country for about a week. Russ took the car and rescued them. While Russ was gone, we found a cute little shop where Denise bought an orange cowgirl hat and I bought a red one. They didn't have a hat in Mike's size so he walked a few blocks and got a white Stetson in a very old shop, one that made a hat for one of the Popes. We all, including Charles and Andy, met back up for BBQ ribs at a restaurant on the River Walk. Not exactly a restful day off, but a fun filled one.
